OpenAI profiled Third Moment Research on October 14. The US company says it runs up to 10,000 AI agents concurrently on investigations lasting 36 to 48 hours. The agents divide up experiments rather than relying on one long-running conversation.
The company uses agents to analyze data and run experiments, including in quantitative finance. An agent can use a result to choose its next test and delegate work to other agents.
The 10,000-agent scale and 36-to-48-hour duration are figures reported in an OpenAI customer story, not independently established benchmarks for other organizations.
An outer system checks when an agent stops and decides whether to retry, end the job, or ask a person to review it. That workflow is part of making longer investigations possible.
Third Moment also says Codex helped reduce one backtest from about three hours to three to five minutes, leaving more time for new experiments.
openai.com ↗ ↗A case published today describes 10,000 AI agents running investigations for 36 to 48 hours.
That scale is hard to ignore.
The interesting part is how agents use one experiment to decide what to test next. When work stops, the surrounding system can retry it or bring a person back in.
Another case published today shows Amp using agents beyond coding, from planning and design to work after release.
This points to a product experience built around progress and decisions, not a single response.
People can set the goal, review results, and choose the agent’s next move.
