Case Study / Yamato Transport

Building an internal design capability while improving multiple products

Yamato Transport operated many digital services and business systems, but did not yet have a specialist function that could view the user experience across them and improve it continuously. I worked with internal business leaders, frontline teams, and development partners to make the issues visible, then assembled and directed a multidisciplinary design team. By creating processes, tools, and education that enabled non-designers to participate in UX design, the role of designers shifted from decorating interfaces to helping the organization make better decisions.

Scope: Design team formation and direction; development of UX design processes, tools, and education (contract engagement from October 2021)
10+
Products newly created or fully redesigned
The number of products for which I led team formation and direction during the engagement (internal record).
Case Study / My SoftBank

Making complex information accessible at the moment it is needed

This account-management app handles a large volume of information, including contracts, charges, and data usage. I redesigned its information architecture around one question: what does this user need right now? The information was organized into meaningful cards, creating an experience that helps users reach what they need without hesitation, much like receiving attentive assistance. The app received a Good Design Award in 2021.

Scope: Information architecture redesign, UI design, and prototyping

Published results for the My SoftBank app as a whole; not attributable solely to my work on the app.
Case Study / docomo dmenu

A business that remained flat for seven years, then grew fourteenfold over the next four years

dmenu's membership had remained flat for years. I reconsidered the distance between the services the company wanted to provide and the experience users actually received, then reorganized user goals, information priorities, and navigation to rebuild the information architecture and customer experience. The result made the reason to use the service clear and created a structure through which users could continue receiving value.

Scope: Information architecture and complete reconstruction of the customer experience
14×
Business growth over four years, following seven years of stagnation
Published result for the dmenu business as a whole, during the period in which I led the information architecture and customer experience reconstruction.

Connecting a new points experience to business growth

QIRA Points is a new rewards program for Daimaru Matsuzakaya Card. Beyond designing a system people could use with confidence, I created the experience from concept through screens and operations so that discovering, earning, and using points would feel enjoyable. The card, points, and in-store experience were connected as one relationship.

Scope: Rewards-program concept, screen design, and operational design
+30%
Transaction value per customer / Contribution to record profit in FY2022
Published result from Daimaru Matsuzakaya Card; I was responsible for the QIRA Points experience design.
Case Study / Nestlé

Adding the value of a new digital experience to everyday life

I designed an app connected to the Barista home coffee machine that lets people adjust coffee strength and froth to their preference. Rather than treating it as a remote control, I framed it as an experience for enjoying a personalized cup each day, connecting the physical product and app into one continuous experience.

Scope: App experience design and UI design
100,000 units
Shipped within two months of launch / App rating 4.4
Published shipment figure from Nestlé; I was responsible for the experience design of the Barista-connected app.
