Google’s new Gemini agent carries one request across email, documents, and code

Google announced Gemini agent on October 8 as a single way to ask for work across documents, email, and coding tools.
Work can continue after you close the screen
Google says the agent retains context, chooses tools, and can continue longer tasks. A team agent can have its own email address and calendar and work within information shared with it.
For example, preparing a meeting could involve finding colleagues, checking calendars, and drafting materials without repeating the same request in each app.
What is available now?
Google described plans for the agent to work inside Gmail, Docs, and other tools. Availability depends on product rollout, organizational subscriptions, and administrator settings.
The announcement drew discussion in several online communities, especially about persistent work and model choice. Real-world performance remains to be tested as access expands.

EDITOR'S SIGNALAI picks up where the work left off.
What caught my attention in Google’s announcement is how the agent moves beyond a single app.
Read an email. Draft a document. Write code when needed. One request can keep moving across tools.
That changes how work begins.
Anthropic is putting Claude to work finding and patching software vulnerabilities. Suno is making it easier to edit the audio after generating it. Both point to work that continues beyond a first result.
People set the goal, inspect what has been done, and choose the next step. When AI carries the context forward, that loop gets shorter.
The new experience is joining work in progress without starting the explanation again.
